Frequently Asked Questions
1. I can add comments but I cannot vote
Question:
I have created a Disqus account so I can now put comments on your site. I also tried to vote in a poll but this didn’t work.
Answer:
The 3DN Techblog uses two separate ways to log in, the Disqus login for commenting on posts and the WordPress login for Editors, Authors, Contributors and Subscribers. While this isn’t very intuitive for most users the Disqus commenting system gives such great added value to the commenting system that we decided to set this up anyway. So when you’re able to comment this does not automatically mean that you can do anything other than commenting on the blog. To do anything other than commenting you need to go to the Login Page and either register yourself as a user or login if you’ve already registered.
2. How do I register?
Question:
There are several features on the site such as polls that I cannot seem to access. How do I register to use these features?
Answer:
It is neccesary to register WordPress account on the 3DN Technology Blog if you plan to have any interaction on the blog other than commenting. The commenting functionality is hosted on Disqus so if all you ever want to do is to post a comment, please click on the Disqus link and sign up there. If you want to vote on polls, write articles or help the 3DN Techblog in any other way you will need to register first. When you’re not logged in nor registered, you will see the login widget in the top right column, it looks like the picture shown on the right.
Some people do not see the picture displayed on the right. This is the case when you don’t have a flash plugin enabled in your browser, so please install it!
You can simply click on the Login link when you’re quite sure you don’t have a login yet. You will then get the WordPress login screen which looks like the picture on the left. So pay attention here, this is the login screen but from the right panel you can also register using either your Facebook, Twitter, Google, LinkedIn, Yahoo or Hyves login! If you really would prefer to create a local WordPress login simply click on the ‘Register’ link and type in a username you make up along with your email address.
If you have no preference for a local WordPress login (there really aren’t any strong reasons for wanting this), you can also Register by clicking on one of the colorful buttons. A little window will pop up with your login from the button you chose. Typically the popup will contain a question from Facebook etc. asking you if you want to allow Gigya (or an application name that looks like it) access to your facebook account. Allowing this will give you extra ways to interact with facebook (for example) from the 3DN Techblog, like updating your status on facebook or sending tweets to twitter so I really recommend this instead of creating a local WordPress login (which won’t allow these extras).
After you have registered you will be taken to your Profile Page. It is quite important, although not required, to check your profile and make sure it’s up to date. We kindly request that in case you signed up through Facebook etc. that you also update your email address as Facebook doesn’t just give it to us and we might need it if we have any issues with your login.
