Apparently Michael Schumacher’s decision to get back in the Formula 1 world has not gone unnoticed, to use the understatement of the century (And nope, that’s not me getting into that Porsche 911 there, this is my dad’s turn after I had done well over 200 km/hr in it).
While Schumi has seven drivers’ crowns, 91 grand prix victories, 154 podium finishes and a staggering 1,369 points from 249 previous starts at the highest level some people still want to question his race tactics and his ability to race fairly. Michael allegedly intentionally drove his car into Damon Hill’s car in 1994 and into Jacques Villeneuve’s car in 1997 while he conveniently ‘parked’ his car in the middle of the track in Monaco 2006 in order to assure himself of Pole Position (which he didn’t get) and all these ‘old cows’ as we would say in Dutch are now being pulled from the ditch.
Personally I think this rattling of chains is a clever marketing that doesn’t miss it’s desired outcome, which is to give as much publicity to Michael’s re-entry into the Formula 1 as possible. And Michael himself merrily rattles back the chains of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, warning them in advance that “I’m going to reign again“.
